The Tracking, tracing, Sensoring Platform aims to research and develop a new generation of electronic Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for commercial use. With TSP technology it is possible to trace the precise location of a tag and communicate with it.
Potential applications for the tracking and calculation power of TSP include logistics and supply management, registration of office equipment, and tracking of people and material in the built environment and at airports. For example, hospital out-patients could be directed to the right department via smart signs that read information from an RFID tag in their hospital id cards.
The project will focus on developing RFID tags with the following attributes:
Base station antennas will be developed to send and receive tag signals using minimal energy levels to avoid electromagnetic interference.
TSP technology will lead to new applications and open up new markets in RFID for the participating organizations. The commercial exploitation of TSP is expected to generate high quality jobs in the region and stimulate the development of innovative spin-offs. Three regional businesses are collaborating on this project: Nedap, Recore Systems, and SmartSigns Solutions, together with the University of Twente. This project has joint funding from the European Regional Development Fund of the EU and the Dutch Provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel.
